Beyond the Mirror of Self-Love

“Love allows our loved ones to be perfectly themselves, and not to be twisted to fit our own image. Otherwise we love only the reflection of ourselves we find in them.” Thomas Merton, No Man Is an Island

If this is your lesson from the “Lessons of Love,” look at it as an occasion to look within yourself and the way you love.

We all tend to believe that the way we love others is correct, and if there are problems in our relationships with them, it is because they do not hear what we are telling them. Even if that is so, and there is undeniable evidence of our own rightness, the other person at the very least has the right to their own mistakes. They also have the right to change when and how they choose.

In its highest form, love is freedom, and this thought comes to you today to remind you of that.
