A philosopher and a mystic lost their way in a forest on a dark night. It was a very dangerous forest, full of wild animals; the darkness was impenetrable. One of them was a man of doubt, the other a man of faith. Suddenly a storm began, thunder struck, and a flash of lightning lit up the sky.
The philosopher looked up at the sky; the mystic looked down at the path. In the moment of the lightning flash, the path in front of them was illuminated and clearly visible – and the mystic was able to see it in that instant. But the philosopher, after looking at the lightning, began to speculate: “What is happening?” – and he lost the path.
You are lost in a forest even darker and denser than the one in this parable. The night is even deeper. From time to time, lightning flashes. Lower your eyes to the path.
