Reclaim your personal power

“There are thousands of agreements you have made with yourself, with other people, with your dream of life, with God, with society, with your parents, with your spouse and with your children. But the most important agreements are those made with yourself. In them, you declare who you are, what you feel, what you believe, and how you will behave.

The result is what you call your individuality. In these agreements you say: ‘This is what I am. This is what I believe. I can do certain things; others I cannot. This is reality; that is fantasy; this is possible; that is impossible.’

One agreement is not a big problem, but many of our agreements make us suffer and fail in life. If you want your life to be filled with joy and fulfillment, you must find the courage to end these fear-based agreements and reclaim your personal power. Agreements based on fear require the expenditure of a great deal of energy, whereas those based on love help us preserve our energy and even increase it.”*

Don Miguel Ruiz

If this is the answer that the games of synchronicity have brought you now, the practice of discovering the agreements that take away the power of your individuality is simple:

(1) See what you are afraid of; imagine that what you fear is happening.
(2) Try to formulate the belief that stands behind this fear — this is your agreement.
(3) Replace it with a belief that, instead of fear, generates trust in yourself and in Life.

For example:

(1) “I am afraid of being rejected by others.”

(2) “My value depends on the reactions and opinions of other people, and I will not be able to bear it if they do not understand and accept me.”

(3) “It will be very unpleasant for me if the people who are important to me do not understand, accept, and support me, but I can bear it. More important than their approval is to be emotionally independent of their reactions and to mature. I can achieve my goals by relying on Life, not on specific people chosen by me.”

Changing the “agreements” Don Miguel speaks of is cognitive psychotherapy in action, which you can apply to yourself right now.
