“He who knows others is wise;
He who knows himself is enlightened.
He who conquers others has physical strength.
He who conquers himself is strong.”
Tao-te Ching ch. 33, tr. Wing-Tsit Chan
All of us fight our own battles in life.
Sometimes they take a more external, extroverted form; at other times, they unfold as inner conflict. Like the two hands of our body, both have their rightful place in our lives.
But if this thought is coming to you now, consider whether it may be inviting you to turn your gaze inward—toward the field of our most essential battles and toward our true enemy.
