“Oh, those obedient, diligent, and healthy people—they always remind me of those optimistic tadpoles that, cheerfully wagging their tails, bask in the sun in some crowded rain puddle—the shallowest of all puddles—without even suspecting that by tomorrow, it will have dried up!”
— C.G. Jung, “Memories, Dreams, Reflections”
When you are deeply immersed in the suffering of the world’s impermanence, and your own… When you can no longer run from the truth of the body and depression…
When your Ego has become smaller than the smallest grain of dust in the cosmos, and you no longer have the strength to wag your tail cheerfully…
…then comes the temptation to compare yourself with those who are “obedient, diligent, and optimistic.”
Don’t.
Nothing can be done about dried-up puddles. However, you can look for the Path back to the Ocean.
