Mental Health Continuum

The mental health criteria do not divide people into the mentally healthy and the mentally ill, but into those with lower and higher levels of mental health. In other words, mental health is a variable according to which different individuals exhibit to different degrees the qualities represented by these criteria. According to this scale of mental health, the so-called average person, whom we tend to look to as a standard of normality, is just statistically average.
