Despair arises from a strong belief in what, in your opinion, should have happened in your life. When reality fails to meet these beliefs, you become disappointed or even despairing. If you give up your expectations and allow yourself to open to the new, you will not have to fall into despair to reconnect with your soul. You can be still, receptive, and open to what it tells you, without having to pass through despair first.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

From the perspective of soulful processes, everything has its meaning\u2014including despair as the final step before saying “yes” to life as it is. I know from experience that the people with the strongest spiritual impulse are often those who reach despair most frequently. This happens not because they are weak, but quite the opposite\u2014because they surrender with great difficulty. These are the very people who need to know that despair is a critical moment in the process of their inner transformation. It is the darkest part of the “Dark Night of the Soul<\/a>,” when the death of the ego is experienced as utter powerlessness.<\/p>\n
